Welcome!

My name is Mandie and I'm glad you're here :)

I am a certified knit and crochet instructor through the Craft Yarn Council’s certification program.

After 20+ years working in Ohio libraries, I moved to the Hampton Roads area in 2022.

As a knit and crochet instructor, I am passionate about making fiber craft accessible to everyone and I especially love working with absolute beginners.

I learned to knit as an adult in my early twenties. At the time, I was working in a library and many of my coworkers knit in the breakroom. I wanted to learn and they encouraged me to do so. The book Knitting for Dummies got me started, along with mentorship from several coworkers. After absolutely falling in love with knitting, I started a weekly stitch group that met every Friday night for over 12 years.

I first learned to crochet as a child when I was about 8 or 9 years old from my mother. Unfortunately, I did not stick with crochet very long, soon moving on to other, more exciting things. I came back to crochet as an adult after being hired to teach at my local craft store. The hiring manager preferred to work with instructors that could teach both knit and crochet so I quickly refreshed my skills and have enjoyed both crafts immensely ever since.

Formally, I taught knit and crochet classes part-time at JoAnn for 3 years and led free community classes in most of my library places of employment. I offered camps for kids, classes for teens, workshops for adults, along with several intergenerational programs.

I've enjoyed teaching a variety of knit and crochet classes locally in both Virginia Beach and Norfolk since 2023.
